Transplant and Surrender
into the
Heart of Christ

Introduction
I was sitting on the hospital bed. The world was busy doing its thing while I stared out the window. Although my view was limited, it still looked better out there than what I saw inside my room. The river ran next to the hospital, and jet skiers and tourist boats zipped by. The sun was shining, and people were dressed for warm weather. Inside, next to my bed, was a machine that pumped warm oxygen through a large tube into my lungs. Not exactly a warm fuzzy. A monitor tracking my vitals was next to it. The air conditioner blew cold, nothing was on the television, and I was by myself.
It was pretty depressing.
I saw this kind of stuff in movies, but I never expected to ever be on the receiving end. Don’t get me wrong, I was glad the equipment was there. The machines provided the air I needed to breathe. Air had become quite a commodity for me, as I had been inhaling less and less of it over the recent months. Now that I knew someone was watching my vitals, I felt less nervous and afraid. But a ten-by-twelve-foot space was now my world for whatever time it would take to receive a pair of new lungs, and the prospect was daunting.
I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that I was in the hospital waiting to have major double lung transplant surgery. How did I get here? Why me?

Advent Adventures
An Interactive
Advent Devotional for Children

Advent is an exciting season of preparation before we celebrate the birthday of God’s only-begotten Son, Jesus. God prepared a young woman, Mary, to be the Mother of His Son. An angel revealed to the carpenter Joseph, that Mary was carrying the Savior of the world in her womb. Joseph was to care for Mary and her baby as his own. Together, they raised Jesus from a little baby into a man. As you read from this book, each day, imagine traveling with Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. You won’t actually be going on a trip, but Mary and Joseph dolls will travel at night through different rooms in your home. As each day passes and you turn these pages, you”ll get a hint to help you find them. Here’s a sample of Day 1. A Scripture verse is included for older children to study and reflect on or share with the family.
